North 24 Katham Malaylam Movie Review

Synopsis - How the life of a hygiene freak, Harikrishnan (Fahad Fazil) changes during a harthal day.

Script & Direction - Anil Radhakrishnan Menon came up with a thought that was treated with freshness. Now regarding this movie, my expectations were absolutely zero. This is mainly because of the "Olipporu" effect. The film starts off on a fine note by establishing the character of Harikrishnan and how the characters around him see him & treat him. Once the film enters the main zone, things started to get slightly interesting. Now the writer/director treated the movie with a humorous manner and did show the hardships faced by people to travel around during the day of harthal. Now we can't call this movie exactly a satire because the focus was never on the social issue but the character, Harikrishnan. If you have seen Mohanlal's Siddharthan in Aham, Fahad's character is more or less the same. Here Anil, as expected, brings changes to the character as the movie progresses with his journey along with Maash & Narayani during the harthal. He opted for normal frames and narrated at a fine pace.

But on downside, the film didn't have an exceptional moment or scene so as to term the whole experience brilliant. Also for twist n turn fans, this fare may not impress you for its predictability. I believe Anil didn't plan the movie in such a manner. Adding to that, it is not easily digestible or impressive when you realize the main reason behind the change. Also the last few minutes could have shortened a bit because of being extremely predictable. Also the director went a bit too realistic for opting some obscene words at 1-2 places. Other than that the dialogues were humourous and enjoyable.

Cast & Performance - Fahad Fazil did a fine job with his unique character. Eventhough he was artificial at places, it worked in favour of him by bringing laughter to the audience. Swathy Reddy also did a fine job with her character. For an actor like Nedumudi Venu, this character was never a challenge for him despite of the fact that he did the best job in the movie. Chemban Jose was funny as the NRI Mustafa while Premji Ameran got a different role when you consider his loud roles in Tamil. Sreenath Bhasi is repeating the same "Da Thadiya" act with the accent. I find it a misfit considering the class of the family shown in the movie. Geetha & Thalaivasal Vijay lend their as Hari's confused parents. Mukundan,Tony,Jinu Joseph and unfamiliar faces comprised of rest of the cast.

Songs & Background Score - "Kaanano..." is a song which played during the opening credits was composed by Rex Vijayan. " Thaarangale..." is nice melody which is played towards the end. Rest of the songs were played in bits and pieces. The background score was fine and suited the mood of the movie.

Technial Expertise - Jayesh Nair's cinematography didn't opt for any gimmicks despite of having beautiful locales in form of forests which was a pleasant change and suited the narration according to me. Dilip Dennies has done a fine work with editing. I really didn't spot anything brilliant in Jothish Sankar's art direction other than Premji Ameran's van. The makeup provided to Fahad Fazil was excellent.

Bottomline - This is just a feel good experience with nothing brilliant to display or any sort of message to convey. If you enjoy those one day movies featuring a trip around, chances for this experience to disappoint is quite low. I enjoyed this cute little movie.
